Conservative or Libertarian?
This video addresses some of the challenges Rand Paul faces in presenting himself to the people of Kentucky.
Rand’s father, Ron Paul, became well-known for speaking out in favor of sound money, civil liberties and non-interventionist foreign policy. Ron Paul’s views seem to straddle libertarian and conservative philosophies.
Rand Paul has entered the U.S. Senate race as a Republican, calling himself a constitutional conservative. He emphasizes issues that are of concern to conservatives, such as taxes, spending, national debt and transparency.
The challenge that Rand faces is that many traditional conservatives will continue to associate Rand with elements of libertarianism that they consider extreme.
